quick facts

  • Name: Caoimhe O’Callaghan

  • Age: 28

  • Hair: Russet brown

  • Eyes: Green

  • Personality: Withdrawn, but commands attention with her presence alone. Feared across the Caribbean seas, and simultaneously sought after as a prize. Once befriended, kindness is the only thing you’ll equate with her. She’s generous, caring, and puts others wellbeing before her own.

  • Faceclaim: Tamla Kari

  • Important Notes: The ‘gold’ is actually a mix of gold and copper, as gold itself would be too soft to make any difference in her body’s chemistry, nor is it conductive. The alloy is meant to make people solid statues, and to keep her from living a normal life.

  • Only humans are affected, animals and people of a supernatural ability are not. (i.e. demons, angels, mer, vampires, etc.)

  • If she touches you, the gold spreads the longer she does, one barely there touch will leave a spot. A few seconds will take a limb. A full minute will kill you. It doesn’t affect through clothing, it must be skin to skin contact.

Biography

Born to wealthy parents off the coast of Ireland, Caoimhe O’Callaghan was an intelligent young girl. Well read for her age and literate, she lived a happy life.

Until she ran away for love.

When she was merely a babe, a local witch cursed her, to love her son and only her son, to set the family up for life. But when it failed, and Caoimhe fell for an English sailor that had stopped into port, her world would quickly turn upside down.

Eloping with the sailor to get away from an arranged marriage and cruel betrothed, they married on the ship the night of her departure. Only when they went to consummate the marriage, her kiss turned her lover into solid gold.

She screamed and ran, looking for help, only to find the ship had been slung into chaos via a mutiny put into motion merely a few minutes before.

One of the mutineers attempted to subdue her but was turned to gold as well, at which point she was labeled a witch and feared. They attempted to throw her overboard, but no one could touch her without either dying or suffering grave injuries of limbs turned glittering and solid.

One of them managed to pin her long enough for an attempt to gouge out her left eye, but he failed as well.

Now with the captain and half the crew dead, she was singularly the most powerful person on the ship, though she didn’t know why.

And at just 16 years of age put in charge of a Brig with barely the crew required to keep it running. With no knowledge of a ships inner workings, and a crew that feared her more than respected her, she did her best.

As the years drew on, the men she’d turned to gold were harvested for coin, upgrading the ship, sending off the crew who wanted to start new lives off with a small pension, and hiring new crew to replace the old.

She forwent her traditional dress and corsetry, for trousers, chest bindings and a dark tunic. A coat and leather gloves were soon to follow, protecting her and everyone around her from her curse. A patch covered her ruined eye, and her voice became clearer and louder when giving orders.

On the eve of her third year as captain, she branded every one of her crew with a gold spot on the left of their collarbones. None complained, as now those that joined her on her quest for a cure, were men she’d rescued, men that respected her, that trusted her judgement and raised their swords to her cause.

They became her family.

Now, twelve years post tragedy, in the thick of the golden age of piracy, she met a man by the name of James Kidd.

He introduced her to the ways of the assassins, brought forth their cause to her light, and with a bit of luck, they could help her find a cure for her curse.

Her body has since stopped aging, the curse halting its ability to let her be human. Injuries are stitched back together with gold, the magic helping heal skin, organs and even broken bones. Her eye was the only thing permanently damaged beyond repair, with solid gold plating in place of the eye socket.

The sea is her home, her crew is her family.

Be careful of how you act around her, for she fears no man.
